Instantaneous hot water systems (sometimes known as continuous flow or tankless water heaters) are a fantastic option when choosing an efficient way of providing reliable cheap hot water to your home or business. There are real benefits to be had when switching to gas hot water as you will see in the comparison chart below.
Instantaneous hot water systems do not require a tank to store hot water and only heat the water (consume gas) when you run a hot water tap. Most of these systems also have electronic internal factory settings, which means the hot water temperature can be regulated without the need for a Tempering valve. Plus, there is no need for relief/expansion control valves, therefore, reducing upfront and ongoing maintenance costs as well as reducing water wastage.

Did You Know
Gas Instantaneous / Continuous flow hot water systems are smaller in size than almost any other type of water heater. Therefore, they are more flexible in terms of location options. Storage tank hot water systems take up a lot more space, and this can sometimes be their main disadvantage.
Gas Instantaneous / Continuous flow hot water systems only use gas when you turn on a hot water tap, and this makes these systems very efficient and usually more efficient than gas storage systems in general.
Gas regulations continually change to keep us safe - rules that applied years ago may not be applicable today. Older gas hot water system installations often had the gas hot water system under a Queenslander style home which was open on all sides underneath the living quarters. Over time, many of the old Queenslander homes were ‘built in’ underneath, and as part of that process, the hot water system was moved outside. We sometimes come across situations where the hot water system was never moved outside, and if the area underneath has been built in, then the gas installation is no longer compliant with current regulations. Gas fuel emissions/fumes from gas hot water systems are deadly, and if you suspect you may have an older type installation at your home, call us urgently to check this for you - it could save a life!
Gas/power supply interruption
If your Gas Instantaneous / Continuous flow hot water system fails to produce hot water, the first thing you should do is check that the gas and electricity supply (depending on unit type) are both available. Check to see that your gas stove is working to confirm that the gas is still available, and if your hot water system has an electrical plug, check that the electrical socket is working.
This issue can be caused by faults inside the unit, incorrect gas pipe sizing, or for some of the older Gas Instantaneous / Continuous flow hot water systems, water saving taps and showerheads are not compatible.
Internal water leaks
Do not attempt to fix/inspect this yourself, as it can be VERY dangerous. Turn off the water, power supply and gas isolating valve at the unit and call an expert straight away!
