You Get What You Pay For

As is the case in any industry, you get what you pay for.

It is not uncommon for people to shop around for the absolute lowest price they can find. But is getting the cheapest price available really worth it? You might be wanting to save as much money as you can, but at what cost? In the Plumbing Game, things are no different. Daily, we come across people shopping around for the cheapest prices for their Plumbing, Gas Fitting and Hot Water needs. But do they really know what these cheaper prices are buying them? Do they really know why they only need to pay such a small fee?

Cheaper is better, right?

WRONG. Sure, you might save yourself a couple of dollars… but it’s important to ask yourself why you are getting this product at such a cheap price. Why do you only need to pay a percentage of a competitor’s price?

In the Plumbing Industry, it is so common for people to cut corners. There are a lot of rules and regulations revolving around Plumbing, Gas Fitting and Hot Water System works, and these rules are in place for a reason. The primary reason for these rules is a matter of safety. You wouldn’t let a car salesmen take care of your accounting, so why would you let an unqualified individual take care of your Gas Fitting? I could go on for a while with examples like this, but you get the point.

A lot of people in this industry, unfortunately, go to great lengths to ‘win’ jobs. People cut corners, neglect safety regulations and do whatever it takes to get a job done for as cheap as possible.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s fantastic to provide a great price for a customer. But under no circumstances is it okay to cut corners when it comes to Plumbing and Gas codes and standards.

Why do these rules and regulations matter?

Plumbing, Gas Fitting and Hot Water System rules and regulations are in place for very important reasons. They ensure all qualified technicians are carrying out works legally and in a safe manner. Safety precautions are in place to reduce the risk of a tragedy occurring.

The job can get done for a cheaper price when you neglect to adhere to rules and regulations. But would that cheaper price really be worth it if your Hot Water System blew up as a result? Yes, this is an extreme example. But things like this can happen when safety measures are not taken.

See the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) website if you’d like further information on the rules and regulations I’ve been referring to.

Key things to consider when working with a Plumber:

When a Plumber is carrying out works for you, ensure they are offering the lowest price they can while still complying with Plumbing Code and Australian Gas Standards.

When Gas work is undertaken for you, be sure the Technician checks ALL gas appliances on the property to confirm they are safe. Ensure they issue you with a Gas Compliance Certificate. Confirm your Gas Compliance Certificate indicates that all works carried out comply with Current Australian Standards.
